Well…. Where do I start? We had so much fun on this fantastic skiing trip to Italy. There’s so much to say! The teachers who took us on this amazing trip were great. Three schools joined together, High Ridge, Brumby and North Axholme. Students from year 7 up to year 11 all took part and really worked well together we had lots of fun. Everyone who went made new friends from all the different schools and across the year groups.
We travelled on a luxury coach and it took over 24 hrs to get to Italy! A very long journey! On the way to Italy everybody sat with their own school, but on the return journey it was quite different and everyone mixed together! The three schools had really bonded.
When we arrived at the hotel everyone cramped into a small room with their suitcases! The teachers gave out the room keys and we all went running up to our rooms. All the girls were on the top floor and all the boys were on the 1st floor. We were quite lucky really because we had the whole hotel to ourselves! It was a family run hotel. On the first evening everyone was very excited about hitting the slopes the next day, so tea time was very lively with everybody chatting and laughing! Not much sleep went on during that first night either.
The next day we all got our skiing gear on and collected our skis and ski boots. Just getting into our ski boots was our first challenge of the day!! Maybe this skiing lark was going to be more difficult than we thought!! Finally with boots on, skis on our shoulders and goggles at the ready, we hit the top of the mountain. Once we got there we had to master the ski lift to take us up to our slopes. As some people had been skiing before and could already ski, we were split into three different groups, advanced, intermediate and beginners. Most of the beginners and intermediates couldn’t even put their skis on. That included me! The second challenge of the day was to attach our skis to our boots and remain standing. The advanced group went off and went down the big slope straight away! Some people are just so clever!!! We just spent the day learning the basics and gaining our confidence. Lots of us spent quite a bit of time on our bottoms!
By day two, some of the beginners (me included) became more confident and had improved enough to be moved up into the intermediate group. We headed off up the larger slopes too. Before we knew it we were skiing down the biggest slopes, sometimes falling over, sometimes getting down in one go but always having great fun. Suddenly we were skiing!
One of the most challenging aspects was unexpected!! Keeping our skis on our boots and ski poles in our hands when going up on the ski lift was incredibly difficult to say the least. We lost our poles and skis lots of times and had to go back and rescue them. Even worse was falling off the lift altogether and then having to sit in thick snow and wait for Mr Ford to come to the rescue!! He seemed to think it was quite funny. We weren’t so sure!!
One lunch time we took a break from skiing and we all decided to have a snowball fight with Mr Ford. He lost! There were about 13 of us against him! Finally he admitted defeat. The next day Mr Ford plotted his revenge with Mr Hodge from Brumby. During a photo call they started the next great snow ball battle! But we were undefeated again. Snowball champions!!!
Before we knew it, it was time to go home. We all went home as skiers, having laughed loads, made stacks of new friends, learnt a new skill and just had the best time ever. This was totally the best school trip I have ever been on and I’ve got loads of great memories and new friends.
Look out for the details of the next ski trip!! Coming Very Soon!!!!!!!!
