We are keen to bring you information showing you just exactly what we are about in this forward-thinking multi-cultural school. But first a bit about our background.

What we are:

  • We are an 11-16 multi-cultural comprehensive school for boys and girls.
  • We are a Sports Specialist College.
  • We are the hub school in our regions School Sports Co-ordinator Programme.
  • We are one of three schools in our region's Excellence Cluster

When we started:

  • High Ridge School is a traditional-looking school built in 1925. We have seen a lot of changes. We used to be a grammar school with a sixth form. Originally on two sites half a mile apart, we are now on one site.

Where we are:

  • We are right in the heart of Scunthorpe, a thriving industrial town in the North East of England. We are surrounded by countryside, close to the sea and not far from the main cities of the North of England.


Who we are:

  • We are 650 wonderful, funny, intelligent learners, guided by over 50 caring, committed, clever adults.

Where we are heading:

  • The sky's the limit! We are an expanding school - we like to challenge the ordinary, we like to change education for the better - make it more relevant to our young people and the world they will inherit.
  • We constantly add value to and for our young people.
  • We believe that together we make a difference - this is what makes us an extraordinary school.
  • It is hard to imagine, but it is a fact that we are preparing young people to do jobs which have not yet been created, they will use machines not yet invented; and so, we are in the business of developing skills and attitudes which will help our young people enjoy their busy lives making this world better when they leave it to their children.

Onwards and upwards to Academy status…

We are a successful comprehensive school with Specialist Sports Status and with Science as our second specialist subject. We are proposing to become an Academy also. This will make us unique and very well placed to meet the needs of all of our students.

The Academy status will bring with it a wide range of new opportunities for us to personalise the learning for our students offering some exciting curriculum developments in a brand new school which will replace the current well-loved but rather old buildings. The new school will be purpose built for the 21st century and superbly equipped with all the latest teaching and learning tools to make learning fantastic for our students and their families!

Before we can decide exactly what our new school will look like, we need to consult with our students, parents, staff and the wider community. This is a long process and we will take care to get this right. As soon as we have more details this website will be updated, so watch this space!
